I’m so proud of myself for working out pretty consistently for the last 2 weeks when prior I hadn’t stepped into a gym or worked out in YEARS. I used to be considered a gym rat about 10 yrs ago. I worked out consistently and was in love with the feeling of accomplishment and taking care of my body and mind. I had a personal trainer and also attended Pilates class every morning before coming back to the gym a second time that day to do lifting and more cardio. I want to get that feeling and that consistency and motivation back. I worked out 4x last week but skipped my Sunday hike, and I’m aiming to work out 5x this week including my Sunday hike. I really hope bringing exercise back into my life with such force will help with depression and self esteem and of course weight loss. A few of my favorite upper body movements from the past week or so 😁💋 . . I've always felt like upper body is play time. There are so many different variations, ranges of motion, and general tweaks you can add to your staple movements that totally makes the exercise new and exciting (do I sound like a nerd or what? 🙈😂). . . Vid 1️⃣ - is a fun exercise I used in an effort to get in more rear delt work for the week- something ppl dont get enough of imo 👀.. Of course you still get some lat activation in, but without over utilizing lat pulldowns or more cable overhead pulling movements. A fun addition! ❗ Tip- line up your elbows and hands and drive the weight out and down with the elbows 💪 . Vid 2️⃣ - Half kneeling cable high row w/stabilization. Stability work with my scap (shoulder blades) have been a staple in my lifts lately. If you're not stable, you're not getting the most out of your exercises or muscles. Give these a shot at the beginning of your next upper body day and feel the difference in your scapula and core stability, and general back activation 💥 . Vid 3️⃣ - Was a fun change up from typical chest supported Spidercurls, using the @fabspecialties Adjustable Seal Row bench. Felt way more stable and able to get a better range of motion out of the Spidercurl. ❗Tip- drive the BB to your forehead and squeeze your triceps on the way down. Better contraction and way better stability 💪💪 . I've said it before, and I'll say it again, GET CREATIVE WITH 👏 YOUR 👏 WORKOUTS 👏 It keeps it fun, ensures you hit muscles in a well-rounded manner, and pushes your strength in new positions (another great measure of true progression). . Why the scale isn’t always your friend VOL: 1838 . Would you believe me if I told you my client weighed the exact same in both of these pictures? . It is obvious that her stomach, waist and hips have all gone down in inches but by the way the scale reads you would think she had made no progress, right? . This is why you CANNOT rely on just one form of documentation when it comes to weight loss. Everyone hates taking progress pictures because they are in denial of what they really look like in the beginning of their journey but they are SO DANG important. . If we were just going off what the scale was reading we would think no progress was being made at all. . For my client, we have totally revamped her nutrition, eating more protein, more calories, less processed foods, drinking more water, better sleep, & most importantly LIFTING MORE & HEAVIER THEN SHE EVER HAS IN HER LIFE. . As a newbie to lifting she is experiencing the “newbie gains”—meaning her body is responding very well and developing muscle faster then someone like me who has been working out for a while. (Lucky girl) lol! So…… her body fat has gone DOWN & muscle has gone UP. . Reminder: Muscle DOES NOT weigh more than fat—it just takes up LESS space. (the reason why she looks so different at the same exact weight!) . This is a 12 week comparison—such a short period of time when looking at how different her life is going to be now that she has built these habits and can continue them forever! . I can’t wait to see what this girl accomplishes in the next 12 weeks!

Upper body or bust ✈️ . . . It’s day 57/66 of @gymshark #gymshark66 and with only 9 days left, I’m getting excited! Thank you all for being such a great support, and always leaving me wonderful messages and sending wonderful DM’s! I hope my messages and encouragement have helped some of you as well! 💕 . . . If you know me, then you know that I HATE recording my upper body workouts. They are super awkward to record, and always having me feel like I don’t look my best. But these videos make me feel super proud of my arm muscles, and I am incredibly happy with my progress. It takes a while to understand that how you look in pictures/videos can sometimes entirely be chocked up to be bad angles, bad camera position, and bad posing. And not because you look bad! I am here to help you realize the power that you have internally and externally, and help bring that forward into your daily interactions. It’s not selfish to wish you looked different, and it’s most definitely not selfish to work on yourself. Spending time improving yourself is one of the least selfish things you could do. It could improve your views of yourself, life, and other people, and can greatly bring up the value of friendships and relationships. ⁣ 💫FLEXIBILITY💫⁣ Wanted to take a moment to discuss why being flexible with your training is so important. A lot of times we get very regimented with our training even without realizing it. We fall into a routine and it becomes comfortable to train a certain way week in and week out. ⁣ ⁣ But that way of thinking assumes that you’ll be able to train that way forever—which isn’t the case! Life happens, things change. Maybe you change jobs and your free time shifts. Injuries can force you to stop doing certain movement patterns. Maybe you just simply stop losing progress with what you’re doing. ⁣ ⁣ That’s where you need to learn to be FLEXIBLE. The key is to know when your training needs to change, and having the wherewithal to change it. It can be hard! As a general rule, incorporating several different training types into your routine over time (not all at once!) will help keep you flowing and lessen the chance of falling into a rut. Every few months, incorporate a training style you don’t normally use—maybe you add a few powerlifting type sessions, or you try some HIIT, or even other things like sprinting or martial arts cross training. ⁣ ⁣ Be open. ✨Just want to share✨my all time FAVORITE 🍑 WORKOUT. Actually this Bulgarian split SQUAT is GREAT for toning quads, calves, hamstrings, and core as well (b/c you’re balancing yourself on one leg). It’s challenging so I’d suggest starting with NO weights, then gradually adding weight as you become more comfortable. FORM: Core tight, knee above toes, and front foot pivoted inwards for balance. I did this at the end of my workout. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE idea!
