I wanted to take a moment to give a big thank you to my quarantine buddy who has been doing his very best to keep me sane during these surreal times and also to acknowledge, for everyone out there struggling, just how difficult these last two weeks have been.
On a normal basis, sitting still and relaxing are not often words in my vocabulary. They aren’t words in many New Yorkers’ vocabulary. We thrive on being active and productive, jumping from one goal to the next, and racing from one place to the next. We’ve learned to look at downtime as something to be doled out sparingly and enjoyed only sporadically - as an occasional reward for our hard work. Without things to do and places to be, deadlines I’ve missed and trips to pack for, I feel uncomfortable and lost. I feel restless, aimless, anxious and antsy. I feel entirely helpless that the only thing I can do to help, is to do nothing at all. I feel frustrated. I feel powerless. It’s not how I want to feel but it’s how I do feel. No matter how much I try to deny it. This newfound normal will never be normal. And maybe that’s ok.
Amidst all of the optimism and encouragement on the internet right now, I just wanted to take a moment to say, if you’re anything like me and you’re not feeling encouraged or optimistic right now, that’s ok too. You are not alone. We are navigating this bizarre new world together. We are all feeling lost and disheartened together. We are all struggling but we will all come out of this together. This too shall pass.
Stay safe. Stay sane. Stay home ❤️ And if you want to scream, scream!
